Alexis Bledel

Kimberly Alexis Bledel is a very successful Hollywood actress and model. She was born in September 16, 1981 in Houston, Texas. Her father, Martin Bledel, is Argentinean and her mother, Nanette Blake, is Mexican.

It was her parents who encouraged her at the age of eight to perform in a community theater in Houston and she performed in productions of Our Town, The Wizard of Oz and Aladdin. Alexis is mostly known for her role in the ‘Gilmore girls’ as Rory. She also performed notable roles in movies like Tuck Everlasting, Sin City, and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. She has one younger brother, Eric, born 1986.

Bledel’s first language is Spanish and she did not learn English until she started her schooling. As a child she was very shy and to overcome her shyness her mother encouraged her to try Community Theater when she was very young. This really helped her to get rid of her shyness and build an actress’s career.

Alexis attended St Mark's Lutheran Middle School and during this time she was scouted at a local mall as a fashion model. She started a serious modeling career while in high school and, among other jobs, had overseas assignments in Tokyo and Milan. Bledel studied at the Page Parkes Center for Modeling and Acting and majored in film at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts for one year.

Alexis' big break came when she auditioned in New York for the T.V show The Gilmore Girls and her audition tape was sent to L.A. the producers of the show liked her very much and she was given the role on the spot. Alexis had never done any T.V acting prior to her role in Gilmore Girls however she has done a public service announcement about underage drinking.

The most notable character she played after Rory in the Gilmore girls’ is the role of Becky, a prostitute, in the movie Sin City. This role was quite different from all her previous roles and hence was quite a challenging one for her. "She's a very professional prostitute. She carries a gun and she kicks ass," said Bledel of Becky. Despite her tough and precocious exterior, Becky gives the impression of being the young and insecure one among the women of Old Town, because of her young appearance and her close relationship to her mother, from whom she keeps her profession a secret. Alexis accepted the challenge of playing the role and she has done it quite well.

The movie Sin City was shot almost entirely in black-and-white, with splashes of color here and there, such as a red dress, blood or an entirely yellow evil character. The director of the movie Robert Rodriguez has said that he loved Bledel’s eyes in the movie.

Bledel appeared as the main character in the video for Less Than Jake's "She's Gonna Break Soon", lead single from their 2003 album Anthem. The single charted at number 39 on the UK charts.

When not acting or modeling, she spends time doing writing, reading, photography, going to the movies and she also loves to spend time with her family. Like Rory in the Gilmore Girls, Alexis has said that she is also bad at sports. She loves music and in a recent interview she has said that her favorite bands are Incubus and Radio Head. Kurt Vonnegut’s Cat's Cradle is her favorite book and she loves to watch T.V shows like That 70s show and Ed.
